Higginbotham's was established by an English librarian named Abel Joshua Higginbotham in the year 1844. Higginbotham's is, therefore, India's oldest bookstore in existence. It soon gained a reputation for quality. Higginbotham's started selling stationery and also publishing and printing their own books from the 1860s onwards. On Abel's death in 1891, the firm passed on to the hands of his son C. H. Higginbotham. Higginbotham bookstalls were established in many railway stations. Higginbotham's was the largest bookstore in India till the 1990s. The Hindu was founded in Madras on 20 September 1878 as a weekly, by what was known then as the Triplicane Six consisting of 4 law students and 2 teachers. The Hindu was one of the many newspapers of the period established to protest against the discriminatory policies of the British government in India.
The paper became a tri-weekly in 1883 and an evening daily in 1889. A single copy of the newspaper was priced at four annas. It is the third oldest port of India with official port operations beginning in 1881, although maritime trade started much earlier in 1639 on the undeveloped shore. Ripon Building, a fine modern attempt at the Indo-Saracenic, is the headquarters of the Chennai Corporation, to which the move from Errabalu Chetty Street was made in 1913. It is an all-white structure and is located near the Chennai Central railway station. Ripon Building was built by Loganatha Mudaliar and took four years to build at a cost of INR750,000. The Ripon building was named after Lord Ripon, Governor-General of British India and the Father of local self-government. Chennai Suburban Railway is a commuter rail system in the city of Chennai, operated by the Southern Railway, one of the operating railway zones of Indian Railways. The work for suburban train services started in the year 1928 and became operation in the year 1931. On April 2 1931, Sir George Fredrick Stanley, then Governor of Madras, inaugurated the electric suburban railway service between Madras Beach and Tambaram. The suburban services were opened to the public on 11 May 1931. Fort St George (or historically, White Town) is the first British fortress in India, founded in 1644 at the coastal city of Madras, the modern city of Chennai. The fort was completed on 23 April 1644, coinciding with St George's Day, celebrated in honour of the patron saint of England. Victoria Public Hall was once a venue for important public functions. It was designed by Robert Fellowes Chisholm in the Romanesque style and built by Namberumal Chetty between 1888 and 1890 on land donated by the Maharaja of Vijayanagaram.  In January 1888, a citizens’ meeting decided to name the hall after Queen Victoria to commemorate her golden jubilee. St Thomas Mount is a small hillock located in Chennai. A shrine dedicated to "Our Lady of Expectation" (Mother Mary) was built in 1523 on top of the mount. The altar of this shrine was built on the spot where St. Thomas' death has occurred. The Mount of Saint Thomas is easily accessed by the devotees who make the vowed climb through the 134 granite steps as an act of penance and sacrifice. There are 14 Stations of the Cross erected on the way to the summit. Won a Trip To….

 …Queensland, We had looked forward to the weekend outing for quite some time. Heaps of personal works blocked the way to our happy day out. I am a kind of couch potato, but unusually the day seems to be enthusiastic and filled with zealousness to reach there. We, the group of pranksters hopped into the bus, it took about one hour and you can just imagine what we might have done meanwhile… funny jokes and giggling over them all the way long as with friends we don't be very formal.
